Manitoba Hydro announces 5 percent rate hike
Manitoba Hydro will raise electricity rates by an average of 5.0 percent starting April 1 1987. Chairperson Marc Eliesen said Manitoba keeps the lowest rate structure in Canada and expects net revenues of 12.9 million dollars for the year ending March 31 1988, boosting reserves to support rate stability. A typical residential customer would pay about 1.53 more per month for 700 kilowatt hours.

Crimestoppers Help Police Apprehend Offender in Minnedosa
A youth sought by Brandon Police since October was arrested January 5 at Rolling River Indian Reserve. Sgt. Bob Connors said Crimestoppers led to the arrest. Brandon Police charged the youth with kidnapping and theft over $1,000, while RCMP in Brandon charged him with two counts of sexual assault.
