Rossburn council fills posts and adjusts services
Newly elected councillor Dwain Lawless took the oath at a Dec 22 meeting and was appointed to Rossburn Agricultural Society, Rossburn and District Agri Rec Committee, Rossburn Alcohol and Drug Abuse Committee, and the Rossburn Municipal Cemetery Committee. Other appointments include Councillor Sawchuk to the Rossburn and District Health Centre Board and Ambulance Committee, and the Rossburn Planning District. The council also named George Armstrong Ward Two Fire Guardian and Ernest Drul to the Rossman Lake Resort Board. Council approved 9 percent prepayment tax discount and a $150 grant to the Rossburn Game and Fish Association for Arrow Lake. A motion covered Manitoba Telephone System extended calling areas affecting Rossburn and neighboring communities.

Lawless tops poll in Ward 1 byelection victory
Dwain Lawless defeated incumbent Ernest Drul 100 to 79 in the Ward 1 byelection held December 20 to decide the Rural Municipality of Rossburn council seat. Lawless backs a feasibility study for a hazardous waste plant but will stay out of the referendum on January 17. he cites regional economic decline and out-migration concerns.
