A Snowmobile Derby was held on Sunday January 4 with 100 participants including 41 operators 54 silent riders and 5 extra riders. The Rossburn Hornets Hockey Club thank participants and workers and list winners and extra riders with names and towns.
Prize winners announced from the booster club and hockey pool include Brett Hunter and Mich elle Nychuk each winning $10.00. Miniota plays Rossburn on December 18, with Eugene Swereda winning the New Year’s Eve draw. A January 3 match lists Kenton at 385 Skiroase Sales, with Nellie Nychuk also winning $10.00.
Mike and Kay Waytowich of Winnipeg marked their Golden Wedding on Sunday November 9 1975 with an Open House from 2 to 5 pm at Oakburn Parish Hall. About 150 guests attended a buffet luncheon and toasts, followed by a church service at Oakburn Ukrainian Catholic Church and evening supper.
After a mild holiday period a sharp cold snap grips the region with strong north west winds. Temperatures drop and conditions become uncomfortable as residents cope with the sudden blast of winter air.
The Canadian Ukrainian Youth Assn. of Oakburn reports its annual meeting on December 22 at the Matiowskys home. New officers include Pres Diane Matiowsky and Vice Pres Murray Manulak with Secretary Evangeline Bucklaschuk and Treasurer Joan Chwaluk. Chaplain Rev. M Skrumeda also spoke. Members pledged a $50 donation to the Ukr National Home and are preparing carolling practices and a concert for Shoal Lake Care Home.
Visitors and relatives crowded through the week with Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Veitch and Mrs. Bennett in hospital. D Bennett of Bendrum, Thierry of Minnedosa, and Mrs. Cannon of Winnipeg joined in the season. Other gatherings included Mr. and Mrs. Gingera from Snow Lake with Marion Crookshanks, and Garth Major and family of Calgary with N Major.
Rossburn Hornets claim the holiday hockey tournament title at Rossburn Arena after a 7 3 win over Birtle in the opening game. Ang usville Flyers shut out Russell Rats 4 0 in game two, with Dennis Juba recording the shutout. The final saw Rossburn edge Angusville 3 2 before about 500 fans.
Mr and Mrs Matt Kuch of Olha Manitoba were honored on their 41st wedding anniversary on Friday November 21 at the home of their daughter and son in law Rich ard Chuhai of Rossburn. Bridesmaids from 41 years ago pinned corsages. Bestman Nick Stupinsky drove them to church and spoke at the reception. A supper followed with gifts and cake as the couple thanked guests. Many relatives and friends from nearby communities attended.
