Rural Council Holds Inaugural Meeting in Ressburn 1959
The Rural Municipality of Ressburn held its first 1959 meeting on a Saturday with all members present. Reeve Shust presided as officers for the year were appointed including Sec treas N Karmazenuk, Assessor, Solicitors Wilson and Wilson, Health Officer Dr. J L Layng, and ward based positions for Pound Keepers, Fence Viewers, Fire Guardians, and Weed Inspectors. A boundary discussion with Ward 2 and 3 was reviewed, a road building program outlined with a government grant request, and meeting schedule and office hours set for 1959 with adjournment to February 10.

Passing of Matt Charney December 28
Matt Charney aged 72, longtime Marco Manitoba resident and family man, died at Rossburn Hospital after a brief illness. He was laid to rest near town at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery after high mass at the Ukrainian Catholic church officiated by Rev. Father J. Lehky and Rev. Basil Charney. Survived by wife Julia, three sons Tom Myroslaw and Michael, three daughters Mary Groeshok Mable Procyk and Anne Stupinsky, fifteen grandchildren, four brothers and one sister. Pallbearers included his sons and two sons-in law. Continued on Page Six.

Christmas to New Year Weather Surges Then Plunges
From December 21 to New Year’s Day temperatures ran about 25 degrees above normal daily, except December 28 and 29 with 17 and 15 degrees above. New Year’s morning hit a likely record 38 above, then a north促 icy front swung in and by January 2 the thermometer showed 23 below with an 85 40 mph west wind. The week’s low averaged 35.4 on January 5.

New Detachment Quarters Planned for Rossburn Growth
Mr. Mandziuk stated the building will be a credit to the community when erected at the east end of Rossburn. The new quarters will be part of a newly built up section, signaling continued growth in Rossburn in 1959.
Funeral Rites Held for Hilko Lasuita in Dolony
Hilko Lasuita aged 77 died December 26 at Sandy Lake Old Folks Home. He farmed near El Phinstone before moving to the home two years ago. Funeral Tuesday December 30 at 10 00 am in Ukrainian Catholic Church Dolony with burial in Dolony Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. survived by two daughters Mrs Mary Weselak and Mrs Anne Kwiatkowski and four sons John Andrew Peter Tony. His wife and son Mike predeceased him. Services by Raginski Funeral Home.
