Obituary noting the Oakburn district pioneer Murdoch McDonald aged 83 who died at his farm on February 18 after long farming service near Oakburn. He was born in Bruce County Ontario and came to Manitoba in 1879. Funeral at home and grave with Dr. Murray officiating, burial in Argyle cemetery, survivors include widow Hannah Richardson, six daughters, two sons and extended relatives throughout Manitoba.

Stock Farming Still Profitable in Face of High Grain Prices
Saskatchewan farmer Sam Chicheluk earned 5027.55 for sixteen steers sent to Winnipeg last week via Rossburn Transfers. Average price surpassed 314 per head with four steers at 32c per lb and the rest between 311/4 and 311/2 cents per lb. Chicheluk joined the Winnipeg trip for the transfer.

Mrs Elizabeth Wilson Buried At Argyle
Funeral services were held from the Vista United Church for Mrs Elizabeth Sally Wilson on Saturday February 24. She was 65 years and 11 months old. Interment was in Argyle Cemetery. Mrs Wilson died in Rossburn Hospital on February 21.

Heavy Snow Blocks Roads and Delays Transit
Heavy snowfall blocked roads and cancelled bus schedules across the region from Sunday into Monday. By Tuesday the highway reopened and traffic returned to normal, though Bert Mitchell could not leave town by car. He still enjoyed a cutter ride in town on Monday. The new Oldsmobile.

Bonspiel at Rossburn features eight rinks and prizes
Eight rinks competed in the Rossburn bonspiel on February 10. Murray Cormack led the Grand Challenge rink to first place with John Williamson second. Two Angusville rinks won the Consolation event. The High School Bonspiel is set for March 3 and class pins and rings will be ordered next week with payments to Carol McIntosh or Ev angeline Karmazenuk.

Last Rites Held For Mrs. Mary Fomenko at Rossburn
Funeral service led by Rev. Father Olynek for Mrs. Mary Fomenko aged 68 at Rossburn Greek Catholic Church on Feb 27. She came from Western Ukraine in 1899 and married twice, leaving four Cameron children and three Fomenko daughters, plus twelve grandchildren and several siblings. She died Feb 24 after two years of illness in Rossburn.

The Manitoba Teacher's Society Executive of District No 2 met in Grandview on Friday Feb 23. Delegates included Peter Danyluk Angusville John Dyck Russell Nicholas Krelaty Roblin Samuel Donen Grandview and Michael Kottick Tamarack. A slate for the Provincial Executive was nominated and district matters including Credit Unions were discussed. Danyluk reported on a Winnipeg Workshop held Jan 26 27 28 for district presidents and secretaries. Dyck agreed to collect Credit Union membership fees and shares from the Russell area. interested teachers may contact him at Russell Collegiate.

Mr and Mrs Bert Mitchell and Mr and Mrs Rebt Stitt won second prize in the Grand Challenge Event at the Silverton Bonspiel last week. Their eight defeated J Cormack’s rink and then Rev Reid’s Silverton rink. Third man Harlow on J Cormack’s rink isn’t deterred as the Mitchells played strongly. First prize went to Stan Siwak of Angusville.

Rossburn Creamery Wins Medals at Dairy Convention
Rossburn Creamery earned second place for highest average creamery butter scores in 1950 and first place for best kept interior premises in Geo. Bells district. It also placed third in the province. C Johannesson, the buttermaker, ranked fourth provincewide. The awards were presented at the Dairy Convention at the Royal Alexandra Hotel Winnipeg February 20 to 22. R N Hutton, manager, attended among 500 delegates.

The Manitoba Farmers Union meets in Minnedosa on February 16 1951 to draft an action policy from the convention resolutions. Key points call for producer control of Wheat Board policy, transfer to Agriculture, avoiding Grain Exchange futures for coarse grains, supporting a $2.00 per bushel price for No 1 Lakehead wheat, parity pricing, improved grading by milling value, farmer storage payments, and a 25 cent per bushel five year pool settlement. A delegation to Ottawa or meeting with British officials may be considered to define Wheat Agreements.
