Teachers observe classroom changes in low income schools
The Rossburn Review reports veteran teachers observe shorter attention spans, less cooperation with adults, more aggression among peers, and a decline in moral values and reading fundamentals in students from low income neighborhoods. They cite home environments, TV exposure, sleep patterns, chaotic households, and limited parental involvement as key factors shaping behavior and learning, while noting resilient immigrant children and supportive individuals counter these trends.
Unprepared Children and Community Roles Explored
Rossburn readers are invited to share observations on education and youth behavior amid challenging home environments. Parents, teachers, church leaders, and coaches are urged to contact the Preston Connection in Rapid City to discuss trends and potential community solutions.
