49th Anniversary Celebrations at Huston Home

A surprise gathering at the Hustons’ home honored Mr and Mrs Huston on their 49th wedding anniversary and Mrs Huston’s 706th birthday. Friends greeted them after dinner at the Harris Hustons’ home with Happy Birthday songs, a duet, remarks, prayers, and a luncheon.

Fund Raised For Bill Mitchell At Local Meeting

At a Monday meeting of the Canadian Order of Forresters a presentation of 154.50 was made to Bill Mitchell who recently lost his home by fire. The Chief Ranger B Taylor presented the donation and Mr Mitchell expressed sincere gratitude for the community gesture.

Inglis Ladies bon spiel runners up and town notices

A rink team of Mesdames Mary Klym Margaret Cleland Dora Werbowski and Lena Zegalski won second in the first event at Inglis Ladies bonspiel held Monday and Tuesday. Residents Mrs Lawrence Ree and Laurie of Shoal Lake visited town over the weekend. A town whist drive and Simka will take place February 11 at the town hall, hosted by Hospital Aid with bingo and other entertainment plus a home baking table. Donations for the baking table are welcome, admission 50 cents for adults 25 cents for children with lunch included. Mr and Mrs N Clubley and Linda were in Hamiota Tuesday. Renewals are due and readers should check dates on papers. Corporal Hadley visited town Saturday and Sunday. Mrs Hadley and boys returned to Wasagaming with him. Mike Saley has returned from Winnipeg after a Heartfest, and congratulations go to Mr and Mrs O McFeeters on their 32nd wedding anniversary on February ?. Sunday visitors at Rev and Mrs I Roset included Mrs Roset’s parents Mr and Mrs E Jabs Mr Arthur Galvin and Mrs Galvin of Churchbridge Sask, who motored down and were visitors.

Hospital Board Receives $250 Donation for Equipment

At the Rossburn Hospital Board meeting Mr Mike Smycniuk representing the Manitoba Brewers and Hotelmens Welfare Association presented a 250 donation. Winnipeg Grain Exchange added 25, bringing total to support an aero flush Bed pan Washer and Sterilizer costing about 500. Local groups may still contribute to record their names with the project.

RCMP booklet aids communities in curbing crime

The RCMP distributed a concise booklet titled Crime in Your Community to thousands of businessmen and merchants across Manitoba. It promotes preventive measures and theft protection with photos and advice, noting that identifying cheque payers can reduce losses from worthless cheques. Excerpts will appear periodically in the Review.

The W A held its February meeting on Tuesday February 8 with 16 members present. The group decided to begin serving lunches at the rink.

Rural Council Meeting in Rossburn Approves Aid and Vaccination Plan

Rossburn Rural Council met on Saturday February 5 with full attendance. Minutes and finances were approved. Traveling by tender for 1955, payments approved, and adjournment set for March 5 at 1 pm. One municipal aid application granted a 25 dollar gift to the Children's Aid Society and 10 dollars to the Rossburn Scholarship Fund. Two old age assistance cases and six disability allowance applications approved. A poliomyelitis vaccination plan for six and seven year olds with parental consent was approved with health officer administering. tentative vaccination weeks are April 18 25 and May 23. Mrs Nene Peden celebrated her 70th birthday hosted by Mrs H Alexander with gifts and a small lunch. Assisting were her daughters and other relatives from Wasagaming.

Meeting to Grow Club at Harry’s Poolroom

A gathering is planned for February 17 at 8 p.m. in Harry’s poolroom near Fish Lake to recruit more members and form a larger club.

School Radio Draws Praises as Students Submit Creative Works

News from Winnipeg notes three groups of students earning praise for art patterns and color in drawings. Jerry Stupnisky leads in several categories, with Judy Huston and Jean Andrew also singled out. Curling results list two prize teams from Oakburn and a Rossburn dance planned for February 1955.
