McIntosh couple marks 64th wedding anniversary

Celebrate the 64th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. McIntosh born in Molesworth Ontario in 1858 and 1860 respectively. They moved west in 1882, farmed in Rossburn Manitoba, then resided with daughter Mrs. George Hardie in Borebank Street. Married February 5 1835 in Rossburn. They have 10 children, 6 surviving, plus 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Reminiscences of Rossburn Pioneers Chapter Seventeen

Rossburn families sent sons to the Boer War and World War I. Names on the Roll of Honor include Armstrong Cormack McIntosh Stitt Warnock Collins Carson Irwin Finch McDonald Cochrane and Evans. A monument to the fallen stands in the churchyard and annual memorial services are held each November. Local women organized and funded war efforts while the community endured shortages and service abroad.

A plan for a new $60,000 Medical Nursing Unit in Rossburn prompts local votes within two months. The ten bed facility with nursery, case room, operating space and offices would cost about $60,000, funded by grants and taxes. Village and Rural Municipality shares are framed in millage terms, with modest yearly tax increases to support the project.

Extraordinary egg weighs five ounces and defies odds

An unusually large hen egg measured five ounces, over 3 inches long and more than 7 inches in circumference, presented to the Review Office by George Lawless. The egg reportedly contained two perfectly formed yolks.

Local curlers at Winnipeg in Bonspiel standings

Norman Major and a rink including J Lindsay C Johannesson and J Cormack compete in the Winnipeg Bonspiel this week. They held a 3 win 3 loss record at press time and Lindsay reportedly dreamed of winning the Eaton trophy, a dream that proved false as they exited Eaton on opening day.
