Marketing grants totaling more than four thousand dollars under Destination Manitoba have been offered to the Parkland Harvest Festival in Rossburn Gilbert Plains Annual Summer Fair and the Flin Flon Folk Festival for the marketing and promotion of last summer events. Grants include two thousand for Rossburn Agricultural Society one thousand one hundred for the Flin Flon Folk Festival and thirteen hundred for the Gilbert Plains Grandview Agricultural Society.
Manitoba Education Minister Maureen Hemphill unveils a kindergarten to Grade 9 health education curriculum emphasizing lifestyle, social emotional well being, physical health, nutrition, dental health, safety and environmental health. Six units taught across grades with pilot in 20 divisions and optional drug and family life units planned for 1984 85.
Maureen Hemphill issues policy guidelines to school boards outlining emergency closures due to chemical spills blizzards or HVAC failures. She cites a 1983 Waskada hydrochloric acid spill, urges comprehensive contingency plans and rapid evacuation publicizing closures, and notes reopen only after hazards are removed.
