Election day in Waywayseecappo Indian Reserve was hampered by severe weather. Chief Lynn McKay was re elected, defeating Harry Cloud Sr by 49 to 20 votes. Four councillors were elected with Rattlesnake at 10 votes. Voting occurred at Waywayseeecappo School under returning officer D A B Nield, with M McDonald assisting and Joe as scrutineer.
On Monday December 22 a six member arbitration panel accepted into the Rossburn Consolidated School District Bill Taylor John Gurnick L C Johnston Mike Pawluk Mike Sotas and John Koscielny. Nick Luhowy’s petition was refused. Joe Mackedenski's transfer petition from Rossburn SD to Islay SD was allowed while Harvey Hamilton and Wm Armstrong's requests were denied.
Rossburn drops two one goal defeats in a tough set against Minnedosa. Minnedosa won 7-6 with 75 seconds left while Cardaie struck with 14 minutes remaining. Heindle nets twice as Stitt Stitt Waytowich Matiowsky add one each. Don Stitt excelled in goal as Rossburn fought back from 6-4 with ten minutes remaining but fell short.
A Christmas greeting message to Rossburn residents now living away, recounting aging locals Mrs J J Stitt 92 Mrs Williamson in her nineties and Mrs Armstrong 99. The note notes town changes including hydro power yard and street lights and festive decorations, and recalls the Christmas tree at the four corners.
Rossburn CGLT held a Vesper service at the United Church on Sunday evening December 21 with Janice Johnston leading worship. Elaine Cleland lit the first candle symbolizing light. Elaine Hutton lit the second. Ushers were Lorraine Andrew and Marlene Crookshanks. offering by Myrna Smyciuk and Lesia Chopp. organist Jean Andrew. The trio Penny McKnight Judy Huston Betty Ann Clubley sang the Huron Carol. After, congregation moved to the annex for carol singing and tea and cookies served by the CGLT girls.
Rossburn hosts its annual Boxing Day Tournament this Friday with a large crowd expected. Participants include last year's winner Inglis Decker, 1958 spring winner Elphinstone, and Rossburn. Games start 1 30, 4 00 and 7 30 with all three events on one admission. Adults pay TKc and children 50c. final only costs 50c for adults and 2c for children.
The Village Council met with all councillors present. November minutes were read and adopted. The fire chief Antonio gave his annual report listing ten calls, four to rural addresses. Village calls included Belinsky Tokar McIntosh Irwin and Peden plus a grass fire behind the theatre. The constable reported fines of 2000 dollars. One old age assistance applicant was approved. By law to cancel certain taxes approved. Bills passed. adjourned to reconvene January 2.
