Reminiscences of Rossburn Pioneers

Reminiscences recount settlers and families in Rossburn district beginning 1888. Margaret Halliday and Annie Sutherland trace origins to Scotland. William Armstrong and wife describe trek from Galt with colonist train. Early hardships include crop failure, animal hauling, weather trials, and neighborly aid. upcoming chapters promised.

Dr and Mrs Shaver and son served home from Winnipeg Sunday. Mr and Mrs M Slow motored to Decker last Sunday. Sgt Alcock of Brandon visited his daughter Beverly over the weekend. Miss Tyottie Stitt left for Winnipeg to visit her brother Dixon who is seriously ill. Menzies depart Friday for winter at the Coast. A miscellaneous shower was held December 10 for Mrs G Mackenzie. Welcome Home Banquet planned December 31 at 5 pm. Alexander Murray died December 14 at Rossburn. funeral in Rossburn. Rossburn Ladies Aid Bazaar net about 300 dollars. Annual meeting of Ladies Aid and WMS held December 11 with officers reinstated. Co op store to close early December 1947 preparations.

Subscription price increase for The Review

The Review raises annual subscription from $1.00 to $2.00 due to a 55 percent rise in newsprint costs. The policy requires advance payment with no more than three months of credit. Subscriptions in the US and outside Canada will be $2.50.

Lawless Stewart Wedding at United Church Manse

May Agnes Stewart and Thomas George Lawless were married December 4 at 3 pm at the United Church Manse. Rev M Nixon officiated as guests from Grandview Dauphin and nearby towns attended, with a buffet reception at the groom’s parents home near Rossburn.

Manitoba to change license plate colors next year

Registrar RRB Baillie announced Manitoba will switch from blue on cream to black on silver plates next year. Due to steel shortages only one plate will be issued again this year, with general advance sale starting December 17.
