Memorial Arena to Open Friday Dedication in Rossburn

The Rossburn Memorial Sports Arena will be dedicated and officially opened this Friday December 12 with a weather delay option to December 17. Guest speakers include Sqdr. Lar. Stibbard and Ronald Robertson. Veterans events include a two minute silence and a veterans parade. admission includes coffee and doughnuts.

Rossburn Plans First Annual Open Bonspiel

Curling players are urged to sign up at the Post Office or Curling Rink by Saturday as rinks fill for the opening bonspiel. The event starts Monday January 12 with $1400 in prizes and a schedule to follow after preliminary play.

A crowd of 275 at the Angusville Ukrainian Hall bid farewell to Mr and Mrs E L Turley after 23 years as C N R agents. They depart for Victoria B C to settle. Gifts included travelling cases and a leather bill fold with money. speeches praised their service and jovial nature.

Record 1952 barley crop grades as malting quality tops standards

A Board of Grain Commissioners bulletin reports western Canadian barley harvest at 284 million bushels with malting quality excellent. About 35 percent of carloads entered malting grades and 30 percent No 1 Feed, while mean protein sits around 10.5 to 11.1 percent in Manitoba Alberta and Saskatchewan. Judging for the National Barley Contest will follow after the New Year.

Pool Elevator And Annexes Destroyed By Saturday Fire

A fire at the Pool Elevator in Rossburn Saturday evening destroyed the elevator and two annexes holding about 60,000 bushels of grain. The elevator valued at $50,000 with grain loss undetermined, salvage may recover much of the grain. Neighbors were called from Angusville Russell Shoal Lake and Oakburn for help. this is Rossburn’s second assist call in two months. A crew cleared rubble Monday and loaded salvageable grain onto grain cars. Local town officials and residents discuss fire protection and suggest better equipment and support for smaller fires.

Bonspiel Set To Open Monday In Rossburn Nearing Signups

A two event bonspiel starts Monday at the Rossburn curling rink to benefit the Rossburn Memorial Sports Arena. Players must sign by Saturday 6 p.m. at the post office skating rink or by phone. entry is one dollar. Draws posted by 10 p.m. at John Pradhnuk's Cafe and Rossburn Bakery.

Neighbor Nite Celebrations Across Manitoba Co-ops

A Tuesday night gathering at Rossburn Town Hall drew about 135 attendees as part of a province wide Neighbor Nite event. The aim was to highlight co op achievements and inform the public about cooperative progress over fifty years with contests films and speeches by Bodan Danyleyko Murray Cormack and John Mitchell. Bert Mitchell chaired helped by Harris Huston Fred Hodgkinson. Lunch was served.

Rink Schedule And Skating Fees For 1952-53 Season

The Rossburn Memorial Recreation Association sets skating and hockey times for 1952-53. General skating for ages 13 and over is Thursday 2-4 pm and Saturday 1:30-4:30 pm with open 7:00-8:15 pm plus weeknights for younger children with parents. Hockey practice and youth age groups are scheduled with specific days and times and space permitting.

Skating Meet Sells Single Admissions At 6 Years

Single tickets priced at 25 cents are available for skaters aged six years and older, while preschool children may enter at no age minimum.
