Continuous Progress topic outlined by Ed Reimer at Rossburn HS

Ed Reimer assistant superintendent of Pelly Trail School Division spoke at the Rossburn Home and School meeting about Continuous Progress. He described child specific pacing and a shift from the 1848 graded system to individualized instruction and a new curriculum. The Rossburn Elementary Glee Club performed two numbers and a Mary Poppins selection before a large crowd. Lunch followed the program.

Wheat Kings coach Buster Brayshaw of Brandon will lead a hockey clinic at the Rossburn Memorial Arena on Saturday January 11 assisted by four Wheat Kings players. The event targets younger boys and seeks to involve intermediate players and local hockey athletes learning fundamentals from experienced staff.

Tea and Bazaar At Hospital Auxiliary Draw Winners

The Hospital Auxiliary hosted a Tea Bazaar and Raffle Draw on Saturday November 30. Prize winners included Orest Smycnnik who won 25 dollars Tony Kalechyn who received outdoor Xmas lights and Steve Peristy who won a turkey.

Don Kostesky of Rossburn was nominated to represent the New Democratic Party in Birtle-Russell at a pending by election. The Rossburn convention on Friday November 29 featured Russ Paulley, provincial NDP leader, urging youth and middle and low income representation. Co chairs were Ken Caldwell and Ron Kostesky with John Plante secretary, and John Vershagin organized the rural effort.

Rossburn Agricultural Society Sets 1969 Fair Date

The Rossburn Agricultural Society held its November meeting re electing L C Johnston as president and Elmer Brown as secretary treasurer. The 1969 Summer Fair is set for Saturday July 12 marking the 60th fair and a move to weekend dates to ease mid week ball scheduling. A January meeting will form a committee for event plans and a New Year's Eve Dance is planned with an orchestra to be announced.

Rossburn Chamber of Commerce Elects Officers

The Rossburn Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting at Rossburn Town Hall on Tuesday December 10 with a good turnout. Treasurer Les Andrew reported a bank balance of 476.81 dollars. A January annual meeting was proposed with a supper meeting later in the month.

Women's Institute Christmas Meeting at Rossburn

The Rossburn Women's Institute held its Xmas meeting in the Annex on Tuesday December 3 at 2 30 p m. Activities included O Canada Creed a CARE donation and a memorial library fund for Dr F L Skinner a horticulturist and nursery owner. Gifts exchanged Xmas hymns sung and a jackpot won by Agnes Snider with next jackpot to be donated by Mrs Joiner. Officers re elected except Sick and Visiting Mrs Robert Alexander replacing Mrs Howard Alexander. Membership fees for 1969 paid and a Xmas lunch served. Next meeting January 7 with lunch committee named and meeting closed with The Queen and a peace blessing.

U C Y Names New Executive

The Ukrainian Catholic Youth of Rossburn elected a new executive at their November 18 meeting at Slon's Garage. Officers include President Phyllis Hrubeniuk Vice President Ryan Shust Secretary Theresa Sawchuk Treasurer Ann Kozun Fifth Member Betty Ann Slon Auditors Ron Verbowski Henry Bidochka Reporter Joan Glushka A $230 donation was made to the Church Building Fund. A December 3 meeting planned a Ukrainian Christmas Concert for January 1969 and a December 16 gathering at Kenny Maydaniuk's home.

Further Progress of Church Construction at Rossburn

Construction on the new Ukrainian Catholic Church at Rossburn continues with exterior window installation. Westmacott Paint and Glass of Winnipeg handles the window work and is expected to complete by week’s end.
