Pelly Trail Division approves student transfer and school sales

At the August 7 meeting the board allowed Norrie Reichmuth to attend Major Pratt Collegiate as a mature student. It rejected high bus servicing tenders, passed By Law 9 1968 selling Endcliffe property to the community club, and By Law 10 1968 for Millwood property. It authorized correspondence courses for staff, approved transfers pending Birdtail River Board, and considered renovations for Elphinstone basement and Russell Post Office purchase. Budget reports show under expended items and a likely surplus. next meeting set for August 21 at Angusville School.

Construction Progress on Manco Cheese Factory Opening

Winnipeg special report confirms Mani toba Dairy and Poultry Co operative Ltd plans to open Mancos cheese plant at Rossburn in late September. The project includes milk cans and bulk tanks, expanding service to more farmers. local manager Jim Flanigan and field-man Ken Vigar will contact producers and invite attendance at the opening event.

Liberal Nominating Meeting Set for Birtle Russell Area

A Liberal nominating meeting for the Birtle Russell constituency is announced. Art Kinney says the gathering occurs Wednesday August 26 at 8 00 p m in Memorial Hall Russell open to residents aged 18 plus with 1968 Liberal membership. Ed Shust emerges as a serious candidate with farming ties in Rossburn district and prior local government service including Rossburn reeve and Pelly Trail School Division chair.

Community Bid Farewell for Earl Moffat and Family

A large Rossburn crowd gathered August 8 at the Town Hall to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Earl Moffat and family as they leave for Portage la Prairie. Moffat served 22 years as the local pharmacist and was active in Lions Club politics Memorial Arena and hockey groups. Speakers including N Maj or O Smycniuk and Mayor J W Cormack praised his community work. A landscape painting and cash gift were presented before Moffat expressed thanks and best wishes.

Rossburn Village Council Sets 1969 Court Date

The Rossburn Village Council met August 20 1968 with Mayor J W Cormack and five councillors present. They confirmed minutes and July financials approved by motion. A by law on tax exemption for the Manitoba Dairy and Poultry Co op was read first time and forwarded for approval. The Court of Revision for 1969 assessment rolls will be held October 15 1968 at 7 30 pm. The council approved a lawn mower purchase and building permits for six applicants. Bills were passed and paid totaling 2362 70 for last month. The next meeting is September 17 1968 at 8 pm.

Two Former Rossburn Residents Laid To Rest

Miss Proctor died in Assiniboine Hospital Brandon and was buried in Birtle on August 14. Mrs Nellie Kennedy widow of Frank Kennedy died at Melrose Home New Westminster B C and is remembered in the Rossburn notices.

Stitts Return From Five Week Overseas Trip

J G Stitt and wife of Nee pawa Man return from a five week holiday in Ireland Scotland England and the Isle of Arron They attended the 12th of July Orange Day parade in Belfast with about 100000 spectators They visited Dublin Larne Edinburgh Glasgow London and Liverpool and travelled by plane boat train and buses The trip included a Shelford Cambridge reunion and a viewing of The Battle of Britain film before returning to Canada via Toronto Brockville and Ottawa
