The rider leans into the first barrel to cut time during the gymkhana at Rossburn’s Parkland Harvest Festival held over the weekend. Warm dry weather blessed three days of events attracting many spectators.
Knox United Church of Rossburn welcomes Reverend Walter Gibbons as new minister. Born blind in Elizabeth New Jersey, he earned a BA from Upsala College, studied languages, reads Braille, and knows sign language. He holds an MDiv from Waterloo Lutheran Seminary and became a Canadian citizen in 1975. Previously at Nipagon Ontario for seven years he is a musician and amateur radio operator. Induction service with his wife Drena and son Daniel set for August 27 at 8:00 PM.
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn held an August 7 meeting in which council approved July 1981 financial statements and auditor reports, and passed motions to push for a new provincial road plan. The group urged adding a route from P.R. 359 west along local roads to P.T. 16, upgrading P.R. 478 east of Binscarth, and connecting P.T.H. 16 and 45 via a west east route through Oakburn.
The group petitions the Minister of Highways to proceed with the road project. Steve Lwinski is appointed Patrol Operator with a two month probation period. Powell Equipment Ltd is objected to over warranty terms on grader tandem seals and future payment for related work during the warranty. Finance Committee approved accounts General 0437 to 0469 totaling 58,272.64 and Payroll 0113 to 0119 totaling 4,126.30, grand total 62,398.94.
