Parkland Harvest Festival Promises Three Days of Family Fun

The Harvest Festival Committee invites Rossburn residents to a weekend of activities at the Fair Grounds and Rossman Lake. Highlights include an $1350 Outdoor Bingo on Friday night, a Teen Dance with Steel, Biggst Little Rodeo in Manitoba, gymkhana, horticultural displays, markets, and a three day golf championship. Entries for rodeo and races may be made to Karen Bergeson, with market garden spaces via Sterling Palmer. Sunday features softball games, a water ski show, Dunking Machine with RCMP, MLA and mayor participants, a beef barbecue, camp fire, and a village picnic finale.

Cool Weather Keeps Vacationers Uncomfortable in Early August

The first ten days of August record temperatures below normal with strong winds and showers creating a fall-like chill. Light ground frost is possible on clear calm nights, though thermometers at stand level may read above 32. Last year’s highs and lows were 85 and 37.

Winners at Birtle 4-H Rally

Four Solsgirth Light Horse and Pony 4-H Club members won at the Birtle 4-H Rally held June 4. Rossburn members swept junior and senior horse judging with Angel Goletz taking senior honors. Candice Bergeson tied for second with Carolyn Dixon, and Lee-Anne Butler claimed junior second place.

Dr Gail Oneschuk Graduates From University of Toronto

Dr Gail P Oneschuk has earned an M D degree at Convocation on June 10 1977 at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. She is the daughter of Anne and Mike Oneschuk of St Catharines Ontario and granddaughter of Mrs Mary Klym of Rossburn Manitoba. Her family attended the ceremony and she is currently interning at North York Branson Hospital in Toronto Ontario.

Recreation News: Community Activities and Schedules

Kids film showings at the rink on Wednesdays with 25c price and free popcorn. Bike Hike to the lake on August 16 at 9:00 a.m. with wiener roast. bike races daily after noon at the playground. prizes for most wins. August 23 hosts a Junior Olympics and an all ages races event. Frisbee Championship in Roblin on August 15. Roller Skating at Sandy Lake August 17 for 13 and older. Men’s League schedule lists several games and a special mothers’ clash at 8:30.

Village Council Meeting in Rossburn Discusses Subdivision Plan

The Village of Rossburn council held its regular monthly meeting in the council chamber. A survey was undertaken of the plan of subdivision with council members reviewing the arrangements and next steps for the project.

Deaths of Winona Peden 92 Rossburn resident

Mrs Winona Peden aged 92 died July 21 1977 at Rossburn Hospital Born February 4 1885 in Birtle Manitoba she taught in several schools including Bruin Indien Residential School and Rosemount She married Robert Peden in 1906 and lived in Rossburn most of her life Surviving children include Jack Marion Margaret and Eileen with seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren Funeral services were held July 25 at Rossburn United Church with interment in Rossburn Cemetery.

$1000 Prize Awarded in Pepsi Bingo Contest

Mrs. John Bonchuk of Rossburn won a $1,000 cheque from the Pepsi Cola Company of Canada on Wednesday morning August 10 1977. The prize was awarded for a blackout in the company bingo contest, with numbers obtainable under Pepsi bottle caps.
