A group of five British boys among fifty on a four week Canada tour sponsored by W. Garfield Weston. An instructor demonstrates the ship's telegraph operations as part of the seamanship lesson.
Miss Helen Miller visited grandparents Dr and Mrs Kippen at Newdale. Miller parents brought her home Sunday. Ladies Aid and WMS met at Mrs W Halliday to plan tea on Saturday August 20 at Mr C Menzies show room. Families from the district went to Silver Beach Sunday. Ernie Chesney of Brandon vacationing with his parents A E and Mrs Chesney. Peggy Hamilton holidaying with uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs J Rutherford at Shoal Lake. Mrs T Miller visited son-in-law and daughter J Menzies Gimli and relatives in Winnipeg. Guests at the Miller home included J Menzies and two boys Gimli Mrs Menzies Sr Winnipeg and Mr and Mrs Cowan and baby Russell.
Notice under the Government Liquor Control Act 1928 that Robert Earl Moffat of Rossburn Manitoba applied for a druggist license for Lot Eleven Mountain Road Rossburn. Objections within ten days to Government Liquor Control Commission Winnipeg. hearing may be fixed. Dated August 10 1949.
Motorists are directed to purchase the Rossburn license plate holder at local garages and a drug store. Proceeds beyond manufacturing cost support the Memorial Rink Fund.
Congratulations flow for Mr G M Bolton who marked his 86th birthday on Wednesday August 10. Friends extend wishes for health and happiness and celebrate his long life and good health.

Families from Weyburn Virden Winnipeg and Saskatoon visit Birdtail residents. Our best wishes to Miss Vickie Kodlesky on her Winnipeg marriage.
L. A. Fonger named assistant freight traffic manager for the Western Region of Canadian National Railways with Winnipeg HQs. The hospital site on Fourth Street has been approved and four lots purchased from John Collins with a $200 donation aiding the sale. A $60,000 unit price is offset by $27,000 in grants, and bids will be invited soon with a target of completion before year end. Local committee members Wm. Hyra, B. Mitchell, and J. G. Stitt urge further donations to secure clear title for the site.
Glen Elmo Mr and Mrs Pushka of Transcona with Mr and Mrs John Pushka spent a week with friends and relatives in the district. Parapa of Grand View visited with Mr and Mrs Wm Brykaliuk on Tuesday last. Frank Dutkavich of Winnipeg holidayed in the district. Mrs Mike Sotas injured her foot stepping on a rusty nail and was confined to Russell hospital for a few days.
The first grain of the season arrived at Rossburn and Birdtail elevators on August 9 with malting barley and feed barley. Frank Bart delivered 3 c w 6 row barley weighing 48 pounds per bushel to the National Elevator while Mike Ryszytyl sent 2 c w 6 row barley weighing 50 pounds per bushel to the Pool Elevator. Alex Cleland hauled oats to U G G Elevator at Birdtail starting with 38 pounds per bushel. Last year the first deliveries occurred later in August and early September.
