Nancy Drul Takes Over Rossburn Hair Salon

Nancy Drul has purchased Gloria Maryniuk’s Rossburn salon and plans to rename it Hair Mania or run a naming contest. She trained in cosmetology at Classic Hair Styling Brandon and will keep Tuesday to Saturday hours 9 AM to 5 PM. The tanning bed will stay, and she may add waxing and another stylist. Gloria remains until August 13.

Grow Bonds Back Rural Manitobans Investment Hit 18 Million

Premier Gary Filmon touts Manitoba Grow Bond program as a proven rural booster with over 18 million dollars in investments and about 400 jobs created to date. Since 1994 five offerings have produced 195 jobs and 7.4 million in investment, with 3.1 million approved. New approvals include funds for Crocus Foods Arborg Pizzey's Milling and Baking Woodstone Foods and The Recycling Corporation of North America. The program aims to pair investors with entrepreneurs to build viable long term businesses in manufacturing processing tourism and environmental initiatives. Initial investments are province guaranteed and more information is available by calling 1 800 565 1994.

Souris to Host New Manitoba Text Book Bureau Office

Construction started on a new Manitoba Text Book Bureau office in Souris as part of decentralization efforts. Deputy Premier Jim Downey attended the sod turning for the 1051st Avenue West site, hosting duties for Rural Development Minister Len Derkach. The facility will employ 13 staff, with 10 relocating from Winnipeg and 3 hired locally, and is slated to open November 1. The bureau provides print, audio and video materials for schools, home schooling, correspondence and English language learners.
