Justice Jim McCrae introduces proposed laws in the Manitoba legislature to hold public hearings on lawyer disciplinary actions. The Law Society of Manitoba recommends open inquiries into professional misconduct and incompetence, with private hearings possible when warranted.
The education minister Carlyle told the Winnipeg Free Press that a 12 month school year is being studied by a committee. Recommendations to the government are due at the end of June with a fixed year option to replace the current annual length setting.
A May 22 seminar at Brandon Keystone Centre will examine a new rural Manitoba strategy with speakers from government and industry. Co-sponsored by the Manitoba Government and the Manitoba Community Newspapers Association, the event will cover financing rural enterprises value adding agriculture education and training and studying successful ventures. Reg Forbes and Hawkins announced the program and registration details include a 40 dollar fee for reception and lunch.
