A reader in Rossburn Manitoba replies to E H Harris challenging his figures on by laws and village finances. He cites a prior challenge to public debate and details the 1957 village bonded debt of 6625.80 with 1193.60 in unsold debentures and self payments, asserting exposure of misleading claims.
Local debate clarifies Rossburn Village bonded debt including Hospital District No. 7 share. Calculations show total payments with interest over sixteen to seventeen years at 17,880.35, with other variances noted and a remaining small balance from retirement of school heating system. The discussion ends noting a $50,000 figure disputed by Mr Harris.
Earl Moffat issues a challenge to form a two person Negative team for a public debate on Village Hall plans. The event will have a chairman timekeeper and three judges agreed by all parties. Admission proceeds go to the Crippled Children fund.
A Game and Fish meeting was held in National Hall on April 8. Minutes from the last meeting were read and accepted. Cecil Gunn distributed tickets for a post seeding bingo at Fishing Lake. Grants potential from Federal and Dominion Governments were noted as possible public works funding. A motion to improve landowner relations with signs reading Hunting By Permission Only passed. The annual meeting is set for Tuesday April 29. Cabin rentals must be paid by May 15 with liens for nonpayment. Meeting adjourned.
Oakburn High School sponsored a three act Ukrainian play at the Oakburn Ukrainian National Home on Thursday April 3. The hall hosted over two hundred attendees with Romeo Hrytsak in the leading role and a cast including Jack Schwaluk Tony Kustiak Jean Yanick Evangeline Slon Melvyne Antonation Alice Stozyk and Jean Twerdun. Directors were Mr. Chalaturnyk and Mr. Michaluke and the production was a notable success.
Vista Community Hall hosts a Dancing event on Friday May 2 with Dane McIntyre's Orchestra and lunch included. A Bingo night at Ukrainian National Home on Friday April 25 offers 20 games with prizes and 75 cents admission. The Birdtail W I Silver Tea and Sale takes place at Rossburn United Church Annex on Saturday April 26 in the evening.
Ressburn Game and Fish Association will hold its annual meeting on April 29 in the Ukrainian National Hall Uk rainian. Three good films will be shown before the meeting commencing at 8 p m sharp. Bring your friends. Everybody welcome.
Rossburn mourns the death of Mrs Clara Rebena Peden who died April 2 in Toronto after a stroke the day earlier She spent winters in Ontario visiting relatives and taught Bible classes locally Survivors include eight children seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren with services held Easter Monday April 7 at Rossburn United Church. Burial followed at Rossburn Cemetery with pallbearers named from the community

The WA and WMS held their regular meeting on Tuesday April 8 with 16 members and 3 visitors. The WA opened with a hymn and Lord’s Prayer. Tea April 5 realized about 33 dollars. The WMS opened with Hymn No 86 and discussed affiliation with WA. A new 4th vice president candidate from Rossburn was sought. A traveling basket fundraiser was planned.
