R C I competitors win badminton honors at Zone 10 events

Rossburn Collegiate hosts Pelly Trail Division tournament with Delmer Yaskiw and Karl Lepischak winning boys doubles. Russell wins boys singles while Elphinstone takes second. Rossburn tops mixed doubles finalists but loses in Birtle mixed doubles. Girls doubles Frances and Donna Walmsley win divisional and zone titles for the second year.

Bingo Winners and Prizes List for April 7

A bingo round on Wednesday April 7 shows multiple prize winners each receiving ten dollars including Mrs Leganchuk Joe Wolowetz Joe Sawaryn Mrs Harry Komhyr and others. The round featured Little Jackpot and Big Jackpot consolation prizes with numerous participants named.

Square Dancers On The Move In Shilo Spring Trek

Six couples from Rossburn Circle 8s danced March 25 at Binscarth Jamboree led by Earle Park. On April 3 six couples attended the Shilo Spring Trek at the Canadian Forces Base with Corky Birt calling. Workshops ran 2:30 to 5:30 with a turkey supper at 5:30. The Shilo club hosted six visiting couples. 35 squares danced in the evening and 30 registered for the afternoon workshop. Fern and Tom Storey of Gilbert Plains traveled 159 miles, earning the Shilo Travelling Prairie Schooner. The event ended with a light lunch.

Fish Farming on the Prairies Could Be a Big Cash Crop

Prairie farmers plan to raise Rainbow trout this summer using dugouts ponds and pothole lakes across Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta. Experiments show yields over 100 pounds per acre possible with costs about 13 dollars per acre for fingerlings and 10 cents per pound for harvesting. Marketing is via the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation with Py-Seas Enterprises supplying fingerlings and distribution centers at Rivers Manitoba and St Paul Alberta.

Government Grants Fund Elderly Housing Across Manitoba

Four Manitoba nonprofits receive 145 900 in provincial grants toward 87 elderly housing units costing 731 550. Rossburn, Crystal City, Boissevain and Charleswood will host new facilities with Lions Clubs and local councils contributing, aided by Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation loans. The Rossburn unit serves 2 500 people with 370 over 65. Crystal City and Louise area plan a 98 000 unit. Boissevain area funds a 105 550 care home linked to hospital beds.

Easter Seals Fund Campaign Reaches $85 from 49 Donors

The Easter Seals fund drive reports 85 dollars raised from 49 contributors with strong Vista community response. Donations can be left at the Toronto-Dominion Bank Rossburn for receipt, aided by the Rossburn Lions Club supporting the Society for Crippled Children and Adults of Manitoba through the annual Caiupayk lodge.

Elderly housing project to rise in Charleswood

Manitoba Eastern Star Chalet Inc sponsors a 420000 dollar elderly housing unit at Grant Avenue and Cathcart Street in Charleswood. Province endorses 85000 dollar grant for the 50 single suite project. Land purchased, 123 firm applications received. Charleswood population 11000 with 468 aged 65 plus. Minister praises sponsors and citizens for expanding elder care.
