Rural Council Holds Routine Meeting in Rossburn

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met Saturday with Reeve Shust presiding and all members present. Minutes and financial report were approved, a resolution approved Kane Equipment Ltd for track chain allowance, two disability allowance applications were approved, one Old Age assistance approval granted, bills paid, and the council adjourned to meet May 7.

W I Meeting Held Tuesday in Rossburn

The W I monthly meeting in Rossburn on April 5 drew 10 members. Plans for the May district convention here were discussed and set. Mr Murphy gave an engaging Yellowstone National Park film and a Sunny Iceland film, enjoyed by all. Mrs McIntosh won the jackpot. lunch was by Mrs Langridge and Mrs Stitt. A display of antiques is planned for May 20 at the convention.

Of many applications for the disability allowance sent to Winnipeg, only one has been approved by the department for payment.

Funeral Rites For Mrs. Alex Andrew

Funeral service held March 30 in Rossburn United church for Mrs. Alex Andrew who died March 27 in Rossburn Hospital after a short illness. Born April 17, 1879 in Renfrew Ontario, she lived in North Dakota Sanford and Rossburn district before 1947 retirement to town. Survived by husband Alex four sons three daughters fourteen grandchildren. Interment in Rossburn Cemetery.

Jr Public Speaking Contest Draws 23 Entrants

Shoal Lake hosts 23 junior speakers at the Ukrainian Hall with Donna Davidson of Birtle Cloth Club taking first prize, Barbara Preston of Shoal Lake Calf Club second, Anna Molgat of Strathclair Clothing Club third. Winners advance to Strathclair April 15 with judges Stanley Jones and Professor C Hopper. Hopper will speak on "Speech."

Ministers Discuss Secondary School Areas In Rossburn Visit

Winnipeg visitors met Minister W C Miller to review proposed ward based Area Board for secondary schools. Six member board proposed with equal north south representation and ward allocations plus assessments totaling 1 707 - one plan backed by district loans and population. Citizens urged to offer constructive criticism and suggestions.

Curling Club Meeting Reports Small Turnout

At the annual curling club meeting last Wednesday evening, mild weather limited attendance to 15. A follow up meeting to elect officers will occur in about a month. Accounts were approved, and the report noted a financially successful year. The Ladies Curling Club hopes to improve the waiting room soon.

Social Evening At Rossburn United Church

The Rossburn United Church W A sponsored a social Friday evening in the club room. A spelling match was held followed by Musical Chairs. A car naming contest tested attendees knowledge. About 18.35 was realized and a delicious lunch was served ending an enjoyable evening.

By election to fill school board seat discussed at Rossburn meeting

At the Rossburn school board meeting Monday night it was decided to plan a by election to fill the seat formerly held by James Harlow. A film titled The First Easter will be shown at Rossburn United Church Sunday School and Vista Sunday School after the Easter Sunday service on April 10. Everybody welcome.

The Rossburn branch of the Canadian Order of Forresters collected 12 dollars and 25 cents for the March of Dimes polio fund. Collection boxes were picked up from local stores on Saturday and donors are thanked for contributions.

Close Call While Sawing Wood Injures Worker Jacket Entangled

Mike Bry kaliuk nearly lost an arm when his jacket caught in a saw shaft Friday afternoon. The jacket ripped to shreds but his injury was avoided due to the fabric giving way and preventing a deeper wound.

Baptismal Service Held Sunday in Rossburn United Church

Dr. Parker of Shoal Lake officiated at a baptismal service in Rossburn United Church Sunday at 4 30 pm. Those baptized were John Dale son of Mr and Mrs Murray McLaren John Richard son of Cst and Mrs Bob Simpson and Morgan Joseph son of Mr and Mrs Earl Taylor.

A Waywayseecappo Band meeting at Young Shingoose’s home nominated Arthur Shingoose Archie Shingoose Tommy Rattlesnake Hugh McKay and Wilbur Cooke for the council election to be held at the Ag ency Office on April 7. Easter exams finished, Day school children await holidays as Easter service is set at 4 p.m. at Waywayseecappo Presbyterian Church.
