Final Appeal Judge Grants Exemption for Farmer's Son
The Hon. Mr. Justice Duff on December 6 in Ottawa ruled in the first test case before the Central Appeal Court for exemption of a farmer's son. W. H. Rowntree appealed from Ontario Local Tribunal No. 421, arguing his son W. J. Rowntree, an experienced farm worker on a 150 acre Ontario farm, should be exempt. Duff held exemptions serve national agricultural needs, not personal hardship, and affirmed keeping agricultural workers at home to sustain production.
