Wheat Pools close successful year with growing membership
The Wheat Pools report a strong year ending with a final payment of 11 cents per bushel for New Northern. Membership grew from 80,000 to about 110,000, contracts cover over 17,000,000 acres, and deliveries exceed last year. A coarse grain pool forms in Manitoba with 8,000 members, while Saskatchewan organizes a similar pool. The Central Selling Agency connects New York and Paris ports to market wheat and now coarse grains. Three terminal elevators at the head of the lakes increase capacity. Manitoba Pool has taken one third of last year’s platform car deliveries and expects this year’s pool activity to surpass its first year.
