Cattle Rancher Protects Native Prairie Near Alexander
Rodger Mawer and his wife Anne preserved about 600 acres of native mixed grass prairie on their 1980 acre Spring Valley Limousin farm near Alexander through a Conservation Agreement with Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation. The deal keeps ownership and farming rights while preventing land breaking and ensuring long term habitat protection. Mawer, born nearby, says the arrangement fits his aim to keep the prairie intact and pass it to future generations.
