Review panel backs Sunday liquor sales in Manitoba
The panel on the Liquor Control Act recommends Sunday sale of beer and liquor by retail outlets and liquor stores, licensee hours 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week with municipal approval. It urges stricter licensee accountability, stricter penalties for serving minors, and rejects allowing grocery stores or under 18s to serve liquor. Chair Carmen Neufeld notes two aims: better service and responsible liquor control. The panel reviewed over 100 proposed changes and held public meetings across several Manitoba communities.
