The 4-H clover with head heart hands health symbolizes youth leadership and skills. Originating in Roland Manitoba in 1913, 4-H now reaches rural and northern youths worldwide with over 65 projects, emphasizing fun friendship learning and personal growth beyond farm life.
4-H fosters diverse youth projects focusing on quality workmanship safety food supply and humane animal care. Members gain leadership through club offices and communications nights with speeches and presentations judged for advancement. Interclub and interprovincial events build experiences, cultural awareness and teamwork for lifelong skills.
The fifth annual Manitoba Provincial Plowing Match invites spectators free of charge to a weekend event west of Brandon between Alexander and Souris. Novice, horse, vintage and conventional world style plowing feature. juniors start at 9 a m, horse at 11 a m, seniors at 1 p m. Entrants from Manitoba and beyond may register with Barth at 1 204 534 6451.
Winnipeg group Oh My Darling nominated in 2009 for a Western Canadian Music Award played a live concert in the Annex at the Inglis Grain Elevators National Historic Site on August 29.
