Manitoba Requires Seal on Post September Bicycles

Highways and Public Works Minister Harry Enns announced that all bicycles manufactured after September 1 must meet Canadian Standards Association safety standards and carry a CSA seal. Standards cover brakes lighting reflectors and structural integrity with specific dimensions for handlebars saddles forks and pedal clearance. Each bike must display a permanent manufacturer's ID and year of manufacture and the regulation is now in effect though limited early impact is expected since many 1979 bikes were made before September 1, 1978.
