Ralph Harlow delivered the first grain of 1950 to Pool Elevator B on Tuesday August 29. He arrived a shade ahead of agent A P Tucker reported by Earle Waters. At press time the grade for the barley delivered was not yet learned.
Labor Day visitors to Cypress River include Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Stev son. Weekend guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Hilland and family in Carberry. John Collins left for the northern States on a holiday trip. W. A. Smith dies at Roblin with services planned in Anglican and United churches. Canadian Legion Women's Auxiliary meeting set for Sept 13 at 2 45 in the Masonic hall.
Evangeline Rebekah Lodge No 41 plans a meeting on Thursday September 14 at 815 in the room. Also advertised is a Bethel Full Gospel church Youth Crusade Bible school from September 5 to 15 with sessions 4 to 5 pm and 7 to 8 pm for ages and over with invitation from Eira and EB Thorkelson.
Doris Robin returned home from Shilo for the weekend. June Christoff came back from Winnipeg to attend school. Mr and Mrs Bill Adams visited Cliff Howe. Jimy Christoff left for Winnipeg for a knee check. Margaret Elizabeth Ritchie and Alice Trickett left for Winnipeg to attend schools. Stewart Inglis drove Jim and Garth Blakely to Yorkton on the way home to Swift Current. Mrs B J Spear of Roblin visited Mrs Geo Beattie and Mrs Robinson. Makaroff W L will meet at Mrs W C Robinson’s on Thursday Sept 14 at 8 pm. Alfred Boyce of Winnipeg spent the weekend with his parents Harvey and the Boyces. Jean and Yvonne McGinnis returned to The Pas after holidays with relatives. Mr and Mrs H Hall of St John visited their daughter and son in law the Lindseys. Mr and Mrs Wm Heaps and Pat also visited.
Cromarty Mr and Mrs Harry Robinson and family of Rapid City are guests of Mr and Mrs Don Black. H Boulton and daughter Mary arrived from Seattle to spend a holiday with his aunts Mrs Ki and Miss Gill. Mr and Mrs Framingham with C A McDuffe and family went to The Pas Sunday and returned Tuesday. Guests at the McDuffe home over the weekend included Mr and Mrs W Downie of Brandon Mr and Mrs L Mitchell and Mrs Smale of Dauphin.
Merridale residents Mr and Mrs Boucher visit Mr and Mrs D Syke. Mr and Mrs John Kiemet ski visit Mr and Mrs John Midzain. Sam Shulhan returns from Dauphin. William Nowasda leaves for Happy Lake school to teach. Miss Helen Shafranski of Winnipeg visits the Shafranski family. Harry Shafranski leaves for Renner Manitoba to teach in Duncanville SD. Miss Nettie Shulhan returns to Winnipeg.
Lorene Traub Makaroff left for Normal School in Winnipeg last Friday. Allan Grundy of Winnipeg visited with his brothers Frank and Charlie last week. Mr and Mrs R Aberson of Dauphin visited with Mr and Mrs G Van Drecht on Sunday. On Sunday September 10 Rev Dixon of Kamsack will conduct a 7 30 pm service. John Large spent the week in the area.
Harvesting is general with much grain frozen as farmers salvage crops. Humboldt resident Tom Linton visits Deepdale while Fred Ward from Dauphin visits relatives. Vancouver visitors stay with Geo Gardner as Milton Luchuk and Roy Dykowski begin teaching duties. Charms of travel mark weekend trips to St Rose Rolla and holiday stays with Chas McKenzie and George Harrington.
As harvest progresses the frost damage grows evident. Officials urge farmers to avoid credit, cut costs, and conserve reserves to weather the setback and prepare for a certain tomorrow.
The Hughes family William Mrs Hughes and sons Garry and Brian returned Saturday from an extended visit to Ireland. They traveled by motor to Halifax, crossed by ocean liner, then flew back to Canada. Bill hopes to rest soon but expects to share stories from across the pond.
Memorial Hall committee asks volunteers to work this Thursday afternoon to remove inner cribbing before winter. After many willing workers removed outer cribbing last Monday, organizers urge others to bring hammers and join in.
Shell River notes show Bill and Steve Low visiting at their home over the long weekend. Mrs Wes Payne of Grand View and Mr and Mrs Wilf Ward spent time together last week. Frank Dayson Sr underwent an appendix operation at Roblin hospital last Thursday evening and is reported to be recovering well.
Mrs Billy Maguire visited her mother Mrs Irvine while Bob and Ernie Johnson spoke with Albert Johnson on Sunday. Roblin visitors Mr and Mrs M Mickelson joined Billy Maguire’s home gathering. Mrs Miah Maguire from Togo called on Mrs Annie Redman Monday. The Redman and Redman families of Norquay Sask spent Sunday with the Irvines. The Adams Irvine and Dixon families shared Sunday visits with Gilbert Plains friends and Bert Dixon hosted guests.
T. W. McGill of Pool A loaded his first carload of barley on Monday the 4th. The barley averaged 40 1 2 cents per bushel.
Pioneer residents recall the John Lamb kin home on what is now 3rd Avenue. Movers shifted the house Monday and Tuesday to a site three miles west and half a mile south of itown for new owners Mr and Mrs R D Robertson. The house has stood since around 1909, about forty years ago, and the event evokes memories of past times.
A yellow tractor at Paramount Motors caught fire when a wrench dropped on its battery caused a spark that ignited the gasoline. The blaze drew the town’s residents, but a fire bomb and extinguisher quickly controlled the flames. The tractor suffered embarrassment as the incident ended.
The Stork Bulletin records a baby girl Leslie Janet born August 30 1950 to Mr and Mrs Hector Robert Birtle nee Patricia Arnott In addition congratulations to Mr and Mrs Ken Cammidge on the birth of twin boys Terry Gilbert and Larry Gibson born Sunday September 3 at Queen Victoria Hospital Yorkton The brothers are Merlyn and Kenny
