In a reader opinion letter a Western Canada farmer-group supporter urges the federal government to address rising production costs. They accuse the Canadian Wheat Board of keeping wheat and barley prices too low and call for concrete relief proposals before farm families disappear.
Premier Gary Doer offered sympathy and pledged Manitoba's support to those affected by hurricane Katrina. He noted Manitobans will assist Canadians in relief and Manitoba Hydro will send staff to restore power. A condolences book will be placed in the Legislative Building foyer.
