Rocking speeds alter infant breathing patterns study says
University of Alberta researcher Dr. Ruth Eliott tested six to eight week old babies in a motorized carriage at 40 or 57 rocks per minute. Excessive criers showed stronger responses to higher rocking, while normal criers were less affected. The study links external rhythm to internal breathing but leaves unanswered whether rocking starts breathing regularity or reduces crying.
