A Winnipeg era column recalls five weeks in the Review office during wartime. The writer contrasts weekly production, editor routines, and social misadventures with Correspondent reports, advertising whims, and local politics. He recalls Mr Rogers, Roblin, Garson, and Mrs Conly.
The Roblin ration board distributed 2400 Ration Book No 3 over three days. Credit goes to I L Mitchell and J Waddy for organizing the effort. Acknowledgments are given to Doreen Day Grace Horbay Lillia Starkman Jean Cameron Jean Mitchell Joan Glover Margaret McBride and others.
Skilled horticulturists gathered at Morden Experimental Station from August 17 to 20. F L Skinner of Dropmore received the Minnesota State Horticultural Society bronze medal from Professor A derman of the University of Minnesota for his notable plant breeding work.
Roblin and district again show willingness to aid war-torn China by contributing 220 80 to the Aid to China Relief Fund. The amount includes 15 from a Roblin Bakery lunch held August 14. Grain producers plan to deliver varying amounts of grain to boost the provincial total.
Roblin school reopened for the fall term on Tuesday August 31 with principal H. J. Steffansonn and teachers Miss I Johnston H Guest H Karri Misses Kelso Mitchell John Stone Brydon Glover Harvey and Barry. Viola Jakeman RCAF Ottawa is spending a furlough at her home here.
Stanley C. Brydon has enlisted in the Navy. Miss Marie Brydon left for Tilston school. Mrs. F. Y. Newton visits relatives at Chater. Barrie Moore of Calder visits with Bobby Keast. Mrs. W. Stewart of Grand Vein visits Zorra. Miss Lily Crawley leaves to join Makaroff teaching staff. Miss Gladys Rae returns to Ottawa. Solsby family from Melville visit W. A. Smith. W. Rae family from Saskatoon visit Robt. Rae. Stoker W. J. Robertson on leave with parents T. A. Robertson. Mrs. M. Lundy of Brandon visiting Mrs. J. Thom. Mrs. C. Trimble and family return to Winnipeg after two months with Newtons.
Mrs. Albert Terry now living in Winnipeg spent a few days with her sister Mrs. G. Aikens in Roblin. Friends presented her an address and a gold wrist watch before her departure on Friday evening. Mr. Albert Terry died in 1941 and the couple moved to Roblin 40 years ago with their children Blanche, Edga and Norris. The Review joins Roblin friends in sending best wishes to Mrs. Terry.
Heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday delayed harvesting operations. A community tea will be held at Brydon's store on Saturday September 4 with supper from five to eight and hot dogs and coffee in the evening. Proceeds go to patriotic purposes.
