Alex Lichkowski, a 19 year councillor candidate, calls for open information, timely amalgamation, and local redevelopment. He pledges fairness, outlines budget scrutiny, staff reassignment, and rural infrastructure needs while inviting ratepayers to contact him before October 22.
Doug Cranwell argues for a six member council led by a head, prioritizing cost effective infrastructure delivery and transparency. He cites his background in retail and farming, notes experience as a councillor, and aims to sell surplus RM properties, reassess memberships, and strengthen the Chamber of Commerce to boost tourism and value for tax dollars during and after the 2015 amalgamation. He envisions 2018 with completed consolidation, improved road maintenance, water planning, and a clear staffing plan aligned to workload.
Mike Allarie, resident of Boggy Creek, announces his bid for council in the new RM. He cites a need to restore community spirit, address local issues, and encourage collaboration across communities rather than top down leadership. He stresses people focus over taxes and vows to listen to volunteers and residents.
Incumbent Hillsburg council member Nernberg outlines a platform centered on community growth, amalgamation details, and rural town balance. He cites four years on the council, knowledge of roads and water, and a farming background as reasons to represent ratepayers, with goals to attract business, improve road maintenance, and ensure competitive wages to retain staff. He warns that parking, safety on sloped streets, and winter ice are concerns for downtown and neighborhoods.
