October has been declared National Fish and Seafood Month. The article encourages examining family menus for fish intake, notes fish as affordable protein, and suggests frozen or canned fish as quick, adaptable bases for meals. The Canadian Girls in Training unit held its first meeting at the Intermediate School. Miss McColl led the session with elections for President Debbie Radtonets and secretary Isan Andres. Other officers included Treasurer Barb Rapdeber and committee members Gail Jeannette Radford Joanne Pitz Barbara Livingstone. Fire prevention week brings four drills in Roblin with Mr. H A Thiessen inspecting the elementary intermediate and collegiate buildings. Evacuation times ranged from one minute four seconds to twelve minutes with partial entrance blockages noted. Fire Chief Brade and Fireman Oliphant accompanied the inspector, and principals received safety pamphlets.
The Roblin Collegiate Institute auditorium hosted a large Grade XII graduation on October 11 attended by an oversized crowd. Principal W. M. Paziuk welcomed graduates and guests as awards were announced for perfect attendance and high standings.
Agricultural representatives push immediate soil sampling to gauge remaining fertility after harvest. Kits and instructions available at the Ag. Rep. office to guide efficient fertilizer use and budgeting. A Livestock Telecast Series on beef cattle production airs five weeks on CEOS Yorkton from October 20 to November 20 at 7 25 a.m. CST.
Total proceeds of the Kinsmen Walkathon amount to 1 866.93 with 2 400.00 pledged. 533.07 remains outstanding. Volunteers and organizers tally the fundraising progress and note the remaining balance to reach the goal.
Miss Kathy Charman of Brandon visited her parents in town over the weekend. Winnipeg visitors included Lark Gamey Karen Cross and Donna Oliphant. Regina and Spy Hill guests joined the Langans. Brenda and Winnipeg guests joined the McIntyres and Patsy McIntyre. Harold Barb ey wedding in Winnipeg featured Janice of Ottawa as bridesmaid. Mitchells return from Scotland after a month with four sisters. Watsons visited Flin Flon and Leonard Watson. Staple home welcomed Pat Joran Staple and others from Winnipeg and Calder. Hank Capelle returned Monday from Winnipeg after a 60th wedding anniversary. He visited Selkirk and Rainy River relatives. Mitchell Kapetz and family hosted long week end guests.
Mrs C Kelly-Reporter notes Murray De La Mare wed in The Pas on Saturday with Ed Waggoner and family in attendance. Several wedding groups travel across Manitoba and Saskatchewan including Canova and Stesiuk families. Hospital stays and anniversaries are mentioned along with guests visiting from Winnipeg, Brandon, Estevan, and Kelowna.
During the 1968 69 term the Intermountain School Division reduced formal exams at the high school level and emphasized daily progress. Superintendent O Ziolkoski notes the shift rewards student responsibility and will continue in 1969 70. Exemption from finals depends on term averages and daily work with final exam reliance adjusted accordingly.
