Nominations closed with three Roblin councillors elected by acclamation Betty Nykyforak Randy Langstaff and Wil Sutton all current or former leaders. Mayor position had no surprise candidates. Shell River RM sees one contested seat Lloyd Elder vs Garth McKenzie in Ward 4 with other incumbents acclamated. Elections set for Oct 25 with other RMs and Park LGD largely decided by acclamation.

Manitoba announces Community Places Program grants for Grandview Agricultural Community Center and Lenard St Elie Ladies Aid in Inglis. Grandview gets 6250 for air conditioning while Inglis receives 2012 for renovations. Shellmouth Community Club also receives final 3447 of a 5270 grant for roof, shingles, repairs and insulation.

Flu season alert from Manitoba Lung Association
A medical adviser says yearly flu vaccination is the single most effective way to prevent flu and protect high risk groups including the elderly and those with chronic conditions. The shot prevents 70 to 80 percent of cases and usually has no side effects. The Manitoba Lung Association offers more information.
