Progressive Party Platform Highlights and Planks
The platform endorses the League of Nations for peace and cooperation, advocates a British Commonwealth with parliamentary governance, opposes imperial centralization, calls for tariff reform to favor reciprocal trade, and supports direct taxation plus reduced national debt. It urges regional banks, public ownership of resources and utilities, proportional representation where possible, personal naturalization for married women, campaign finance disclosure, cooperative farming markets, liquor prohibition, and selective immigration with settlement aims.
Campaign to abolish Income Tax launched in Canada
The Retail Trade Bureau of Canada with Ottawa HQ leads a Dominion wide push to end the income tax. Reports cite support from Montreal and Ottawa meetings, with E M Trowern arguing the tax fosters dishonesty and harms enterprise. Tax figures from 1921–24 are presented to show shrinking revenue and unequal burdens on farmers, professionals, merchants, manufacturers, and employees. The Institute sees possible tax reductions without hurting government services, while warning of sales and tariff effects.
