Safe Driving Week Highlights Hidden Costs of Impaired Driving
The Canada Safety Council marks its 38th Safe Driving Week with the theme The Hidden Faces of Impaired Driving. Impaired driving factors in about 48 percent of fatal crashes, costing society over 20 billion dollars annually and causing around 1,800 deaths and 60,000 injuries. Despite a slight decline, repeat offenders rise, with 57 percent of charged drivers having prior offenses in five years. Public message urges If You Drink Dont Drive and If You Drive Dont Drink.
