The Roblin power plant overloaded when its 80 HP generator blew, forcing repairs in Winnipeg and reduced output. The 40 HP engine was overhauled, the 20 HP kept essential services running, and officials consider a larger unit while urging ratepayers to endure the temporary strain.
Thursday afternoon a fire destroyed the home of John Hawryluk located north of the Roblin Flour Mill. The cause is unknown and the homeowner had no insurance. A new chemical engine arrived late and was ineffective. the main engine hose arrived within 20 minutes and quickly subdued the blaze, but the building and contents were largely lost.
The Winnipeg Bracken Club extends its nonpartisan effort to inform citizens on the Canadian Parliamentary System. An extension committee invites friends from all provinces to form a Provincial National Committee to organize Bracken Clubs nationwide. The resolutions stress openness to all citizens and improved public information for better government.
Mr and Mrs Walter Black announce their eldest daughter Audrey will wed James Porter in the autumn. James Porter is the only son of Mrs Porter and the late Mr S Porter of Chilliwack British Columbia.
The Russell Roblin W I district board met in Roblin last Monday to plan their final convention to be held in Roblin on Monday June 12. They thank Mr and Mrs E Greenaway for their home for a dinner and Mr T Kelso for tea, plus others who assisted.
The Tummel W I met May 9 at Mrs W Arnott’s home with most members present. A layette shower for Britain was held as gifts were received and more are welcome. Delegates to the Roblin convention were named Mrs G Mitchell and Miss Bess Livingston. A health insurance talk engaged the group before a luncheon. The next meeting is set for June 22 at Mrs G Mitchell’s home.
