MPI RoadWatch marks 20th year targeting impaired driving
Manitoba Public Insurance led RoadWatch enters its 20th year during the Victoria Day weekend to November. Nine police agencies including RCMP will participate to heighten enforcement and public awareness. Since inception, about 2,000 impaired drivers have been removed from roads. Young males under 35 drive most impairment crashes, contributing to fatalities and injuries. Over 2010 2017, more than 480,000 vehicles were screened and 16,000 HTA notices issued for offenses from speeding to texting. Police urge safer driving and note the program reduces risk and insurance costs.
