Manitoba 2006 Census Highlights Big Wheat Lead and Growing Bison
Manitoba 2006 Census shows spring wheat remained the top field crop with 3.0 million acres, canola up 21.7 percent to 2.3 million, and soybeans rising to 350 567 acres. Cattle and calves totaled 1.6 million while pigs rose 15.4 percent to 2.9 million, with bison herds up 45.9 percent to 19 609. No-till farming increased to 21.3 percent and conservation tillage to 35.2 percent. Injury reports reached 1 298 farms. 45.6 percent used computers for farm business.
