Cairn marker unveiling for Brooks Halfway House slated June 7
The Crocus Trail Committee plans a 11 a.m. Saturday unveiling of a marker at the former Brooks Halfway House nine miles south of Cardenger Ford. Built circa 1881 by Robert and Jane Brooks, it served traders traveling between Fort Pelly Fort Saskatchewan and Fort Ellice. The event coincides with International Trails Day and is funded by Goose Lake High Youth in Philanthropy, Roblin Community Foundation, and a Manitoba Heritage Grant. Representatives from local and provincial governments are invited.
