Don’t Put Cattle On Pasture Too Early
Cattlemen should wait until June to graze native pastures. Early grazing reduces growth by up to 60 percent, limits May–June production to half, and leaves cows with insufficient dry matter to meet energy needs, especially with a calf at foot. Use small paddocks and rotational grazing if wait is not possible.

Grazing Readiness Impacts Calf Production This Season
The piece notes energy intake limits when grazing pastures early in the breeding cycle. Grazing too early reduces actual dry matter production, harming this year's calf growth and risking weak calves next year. For details, contact agricultural personnel.
