Two Daughters Die In Roblin Fire At Home Tragedy

Fire ravaged a Roblin residence early Monday morning destroying the Evans home. The girls Agnes 14 and Esther 9 perished in the blaze while Mr and Mrs Thos Evans and their son escaped in night clothes. Neighbors and firefighters battled the flames. the funeral service was held at United Church with hundreds in attendance despite rain.

Great Transition in Prairie West

A deputy postmaster general bulletin recounts a 50 year arc from horse and dog teams carrying Winnipeg to Edmonton mail in about 21 days, to the modern Air Mail Service. It notes John A Mitchell, 1880 Hudson Bay clerk at Fort Edmonton, later PaKan postmaster, who oversaw mail via dog and horse teams and witnessed the change.

Merridale H Fraser returns as patrol man on the forest reserve for the season. The Salvation Army captain from Roblin led services here on Sunday. C Brydon administrator for Hisburg Municipality visited Merridale school. Soil moisture is high and rain has kept forest fires at bay, aiding those who battled fires in past years.
