Wednesday morning figures from unit headquarters No. 45 show 240 subscribers pledging $32,000 for Canada's 4th Victory Loan. The drive aims for two thirds of the quota by Saturday evening. rural salesmen report bad roads but still solicitants. An 81 year old lady contributed pennies to support the bond effort. Need remains 440 subscribers before the 15th.
John Eckert of Roblin enlisted in the Canadian active army at Winnipeg on April 24. He is 38 and worked as a millwright. His next of kin is his mother, Eleanor Eckert of Roblin.
A large audience in Roblin heard A W Kleiforth American Consul General in Winnipeg discuss Nazi Germany and the Nazi regime’s development. He urged Canadians to buy Victory Bonds to help crush Nazism while praising Allied unity. The event featured singing, a National Anthem, and a postmeeting dance.
On Tuesday April 7 at 4 30 p m at the home of her parents Mary Farquarkson youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Buick Tummel married LAC Ivan Weir son of Mrs James Weir and the late James Weir of Russell The ceremony was performed by Rev D Conly The service opened with the solo I Did Know sung by H A Westwood who also sang When Song is Sweet
During the signing of the register Mrs WJ Westwood played wedding music. The bride wore white sheer with a plumed veil and pink carnations. The matron of honour wore coral sheer, the bridesmaid Patricia Van Alstyne wore a floor-length dress. The bridegroom’s brother J Weir of the RCNVR attended. After a lunch for twenty guests LAC and Mrs Weir left for Winnipeg. they will reside in Vancouver where the groom is stationed. Two christenings were performed by Rev D Conly for relatives of the couple.
Borden W Sharpen of Roblin has been promoted to sergeant rank as announced by military authorities at No. 10 Military District Depot Winnipeg. He is 28 years old and a Roblin born man who worked as a mechanic before enlisting.
