Parks Canada elks tuberculosis study tests blood method
Veterinarians rarely see TB and a Canadian study led by Dr. Gary Webeser at the University of Saskatchewan tests a blood method to detect TB in elk. The program, backed by Parks Canada, probes use of the blood test, elk movement data from students, and aims to limit cattle contact while culling pressure keeps the Riding Mountain herd around 2,500. Cattle producer Larry Rickards notes an infected herd was destroyed and supports learning from the effort.
