End of Fifth Session Signals Mixed Outlook For Manitoba Government
The fifth session of the 27th Legislative Assembly closed with Lieutenant-Governor Bowlby prorogation after approving about 120 bills. Premier Roblin avoided dissolution, citing a government-led agenda including Nelson River power development and a North pulp mill, while bemoaning the San Antonio mine closure. A contentious daylight saving debate drew criticism as urban-rural time divergence persisted and protests over political pipe smoking and public demonstrations reflected shifting public sentiment.
