Community News From Deepdale and District Events

District notes report visiting and illness updates for residents including Mr and Mrs Alex Livingstone, Judy Ward from Winnipeg, and Frank R Taylor. Deepdale Sunday School plans Easter and Mothers Day services, with a Ted Red Cross Home Nursing course starting May 1. Amateur Nite at Deepdale Community Hall drew 16 acts and netted about $110, followed by a Pats Orchestra dance.

Cromarty Mr. and Mrs. Fred Austin and family and Mrs. Austin Sr. of Togo visited relatives in the district Sunday. Mrs. J Gabel of Lenore Man spent last week as guest of Mr. and Mrs. G Laird. Mr. and Mrs. L Adams and Mr. and Mrs. H Bell and family of Grandview were guests of Mr. and Mrs. F McDuffe. Mr. and Mrs. P McGuinnes were guests of Mr. and Mrs. G Giles Sr. on Sunday.

Canadian Save the Children Fund aids Greece quake children

The British Save the Children Fund reports 16 000 children homeless in Wales after the Ionian earthquake. The Canadian Save the Children Fund dispatches $500 and will send 230 blankets as soon as possible. Arbor Day Observance Set For May 9 In Maniwba

Arbor Day will be observed Monday May 9 in Maniwba as a day for planting and transplanting trees. The designation was announced by Hon R D Robertson Minister of Agriculture and Immigration. The date chosen aligns with spring conditions and the day is not a holiday for schools or businesses.

Bake Sale at Macleods Store June 4

The Eastern Star will hold a bake sale at Macleods Store on Saturday June 4 at 2 pm. Also note Cromarty Sunday School reopens Mother's Day May 8 at 11:00 am. A dance at Bield Hall on May 13 with The Plainsmen, admission one dollar lunch included.

April W I Meeting Notes in Shell River

The April meeting of the W I at Mrs. F Limb's home had 10 ladies, two new members joined, and reports from standing committees. Mrs Limb spoke on a District meeting in Russell, plans were made for the District Convention May 20, a study of Ceylon continued, and a social hour hosted by Mrs Angus featured a prize won by Mrs Lowe and a dainty launch. The May meeting is set for May 19 at Mrs Vic Lowe's home at 2 pm with grandmothers to be entertained.

Pioneer Mr. McBride Dies after a Civic Life in Roblin

Mr. McBride born Markdale Ontario January 1 1876 moved with family to Minnedosa in 1892 later lived Strathclair and Franklin districts. He came to Roblin 1893 homesteaded Sunny Slope district then moved to Roblin 1937. He farmed ran a saw mill and a summer camp at Madge Lake and served as reeve councillor and mayor of Roblin.
