Zebra mussels spread in Manitoba waters and control efforts
Parks says zebra mussels are established in Lake Winnipeg south basin and spread to Red River, Lake Winnipeg channel, north basin, and Cedar Lake. The province enforces control zones with inspections for watercraft and equipment, requiring draining, cleaning, drying, and decontamination to prevent veliger transfer. A pilot decontamination program aimed for 2019 hopes to widen enforcement.
