Mountain View trustees approve 13.2 million special levy
MVSD trustees at a March 11 meeting approved a 13 225 136 special levy and a 2013 14 operating budget of 38 638 931. The special levy rose 274 565 to 2.12 percent and the bill rate for 2013 is 19.09 down from 18.96. Despite a discontinued tax incentive grant MVSD will still receive it, keeping the levy mill rate about five percent lower than otherwise. Expenditures rise 1 194 625 due to contracts, field trips, fuel, phone upgrades, and building maintenance needs. Equalization funding adds roughly 750 000, about 3.5 percent. Board chair Floyd Martens calls the budget one of the smallest increases in memory.

Cropbuilders, based in Roblin, opened a yard east of Cross Town Motors to serve Parkland and Saskatchewan producers. The partners plan to stock seed and chemical lines from Monsanto, Brett Young and others, add seed treatment and scales, hire more staff, and emphasize local service over larger firms. They report strong early orders especially for soybeans and corn.
