Manitoba Legislature Reopens April 9 With 2008 Budget
The Manitoba legislature will reopen on April 9 to introduce the 2008 budget. Finance minister Greg Selinger says the plan funds social programs and the green economy while maintaining affordability amid U.S. economic uncertainty. Third-quarter 2007-08 projections show a $329 million summary surplus and a $3 million positive core balance after a $110 million debt repayment, aided by higher Manitoba Hydro and agricultural services income. The Fiscal Stabilization Fund is set to end the year with about $683 million. The session is the 39th. 36 NDP, 19 PCs, and two Liberals sit in the 57-seat chamber.
